Hello All, I have started a project that I'm dubbing www.OperationTroopConnect.com in memory of my cousin Nicholas. It will be an effort to connect troops overseas with family back here at home using voice chat software. They will be able to talk to each other in real time and privately. The software and service will be totally free to both the troops and their family's. If you or someone you know wishes to participate in this, feel free to contact me. With that said both parties will need a computer, internet access, speakers or headphones and a microphone to communicate using the software. As this is a new project, I do not know exactly how many people I will be able to accommodate. So the sooner those that wish to participate, the better chance they stand in getting channel on the server. Again the site is www.operationtroopconnect.com Thanks TheDon

Where are the pictures of your loved ones. We all have come to SoldierWall and posted pictures of our heros, yet, as I browse your profiles very few are saying where on this site you have posted their pictures. I posted my father and my grandfather on page 35. They are both Walter S. Goodland. I have also posted my G.G.Grandmother as she launched the U.S.S.Wisconsin, on page 56. So, now tell me where are the pictures of your loved ones and heros.

Which presidential candidate are you leaning toward at this point? Seems like they all have drawbacks, and it's hard to decide who might be up to the task. I just wondered what the soldiers who are in harms way are thinking.

If anyone is wanting to send a care package to soldiers overseas there is a great group call Pinup Angels. My friend Cherry Lane is co-founder. Their myspace is www.myspace.com/pinupangels & this has all the information about donating. They get tons of names to send packages to.

Hi its me lauraann

we all our very grateful to all the men and women fighting the war in Iraq and other places.. As we ready ourself for christmas lets remember the true meaning! and always remember its better to give then to recieve.. there are new troops arriving in Iraq as I type this and they too will need us to contuine to write in care of any soldier and also they will need wipes, toothpaste, lotion, foot cream and alot of other things, Maybe some of us could gathe rup supplies they will need and send a nice care package to someone.. My 5 year old and I decided instead of so many toys we would do something special for atleast one person over there...anyway I am new to this site and I think its the best site around! making friends chatting and just enjoying the time I spend on here who could ask for anything more.. thank you to all those who added me and lets chat talk about our brave men and women and share a laugh or two or maybe a smile...

I love this site! I want to see who people think will be the best Presidential choice when it comes to providing the troops with what they need. I'm deciding how to vote and I'd love to hear the opinions of people that are in the military or close to it.

My brother received a Purple Heart on November 29, 2007. (link to read the story http://www.dvidshub.net/?script=news/news_show.php&id=14364). On August 18, 2007, a 17 year old Iraqi citizen intercepted a suicide bomber at a CLC meeting and saved the lives of soldiers and local town members. Read my blog for all of the details of the incident and the President's Radio Address of August 25, 2007 mentioning this incident. http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=101913521&blogID=302355183)

Stockings for Troops* Hello everyone, My cousin, Cpl. Kelly Williams, just got back from Iraq with the Marines, but her husband and a bunch of close friends are still out there. For Christmas, my cousin Emily and I are making stockings for the 22 members of her platoon. Here are some of the things we plan to include: * Cookies * Candy * Hand-painted miniature picture frames * Books and puzzles (Sudoku, Mad Libs, joke books, word searches, etc) * Stationery and supplies to write home * Individualized letters from 3rd graders * Sanitary products * And a bunch of other miscellaneous toys and games to help pass the time * Holiday movies, such as The Santa Clause, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, A Christmas Story, etc. However, it has taken much more money than we anticipated and my funds are just about out. I really don't want to abandon the idea, so I am hoping that anyone who reads this may have a few extra dollars. It doesn't have to be much, but anything, even $1, would help! If you can't, I completely understand. But if you can spare a little extra let me know! You can e-mail me at nennerfree@aol.com with any questions. I also have a Paypal account set up if you would prefer to do it that way. I think all you need is my e-mail address, which again, is nennerfree@aol.com Thank you in advance to any who can help! Sincerely, Jenna Porter

A SOLDIER’S CHRISTMAS The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, my daughter beside me, angelic in rest. Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight. The sparkling lights in the tree, I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve. My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep in perfect contentment, or so it would seem. So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream. The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near, But I opened my eye when it tickled my ear. Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow. My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear, and I crept to the door just to see who was near. Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night, A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight. A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold. Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled, Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child. "What are you doing?" I asked without fear, "Come in this moment, it's freezing out here! Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve, You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!" For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift, away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts, to the window that danced with a warm fire's light. Then he sighed and he said "It's really all right, I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night." "It's my duty to stand at the front of the line, that separates you from the darkest of times. No one had to ask or beg or implore me, I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me." "My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December," then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers. My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam And now it is my turn and so, here I am." "I've not seen my own son in more than a while, But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile." Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag, The red white and blue... an American flag. "I can live through the cold and the being alone, Away from my family, my house and my home, I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat, I can carry the weight of killing another or lay down my life with my sisters and brothers who stand at the front against any and all, to insure for all time that this flag will not fall." "So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright Your family is waiting and I'll be all right." "But isn't there something I can do, at the least, Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast? It seems all too little for all that you've done, For being away from your wife and your son." Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret, "Just tell us you love us, and never forget To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone. To stand your own watch, no matter how long. For when we come home, either standing or dead, to know you remember we fought and we bled is payment enough, and with that we will trust. That we mattered to you as you mattered to us." --- Copyright © 2000 Michael Marks In loving appreciation of the countless Americans who have and continued to serve in the Armed Forces, and those who gave their life for their country. Your sacrifices will never be forgotten. We look forward to the day you come home. God bless and keep you always, and God Bless America

A Prayer For The American Soldier This Christmas Let There Be Peace In Iraq This Year In the silence of the desert, far away in Iraq I pray for the American Soldier this Christmas Day Let there be peace soon, Dear God, I ask of you They need a soft bed to sleep A little time with those who love them, so deep I can hear them marching Birds taking to the air Gun fire going off They must be very scared Christmas is a long way from home I feel their sweat, as if it is my own May they hold hand made gifts, from loved one's far away Can You, Dear God, send them back to freedom To see a Christmas tree I want to have my man Will you fly him back to me Soon there will be peace I know it in my heart My prayer and those of many Can mend broken hearts I see a land so far away They sleep in the desert on Christmas Day I know their dreams will be answered Your loving hands touch them always So I say a prayer, to bring them home I hope next Christmas, we will be a family again Thank you God for listening, Around the world, you fly Helping soldiers live their life For freedom, which will never ever die.

Convicted by honor, and armed with pride, a gambit of emotions has been spent by those willing to sacrifice and the personal indulgences here at home fanning the flame that keeps Liberty's torch lighted. It is our privilege as patriotic supporters and the Village of Constantine to be host of the second annual "Prayers in Bubbles." Please join us as we pay tribute to our Nation's birthday in celebration of a fundamental obedience, a belief that American youth has responded to, a summons that does ring Freedom's bell, and fosters the shot that is truly resounded around the world. Prior to this paramount dedication, we must focus. Focus on our individual contribution and the many tasks, that aligned with one another, we may function in unison to become an interdependent force, a force that exceeds the ability of one, and emphasizes a credence of what our country is founded upon. Thus, with your willingness to participate, a message will secrete and forge the exigent of spirit. So thus in doing so, others do experience the passion that defines America. "Prayers in Bubbles" is a simple act where we write letters. Letters to the enlisted serving abroad (in conflict or in kind), thanking them for their commitment and devoutness, by paying tribute with garner, a parade and taking a moment to salute our soldiers in solace, and releasing as many bubbles as one can - Wow. P.S. I will blow a bubble for you! www.prayersinbubbles.org email us: prayers_in_bubbles@earthlink.net

Christmas Remembrance Poem The spirit of Christmas takes flight Neath the star of Bethlehem's light Filling hearts and minds with delight, Joyfully we await Christmas Eve night. Tis the season of good will and mirth, Joy and love will encircle the Earth, As we feel the Christmas spirit perform Remember the beloved brave in uniform. They're in the mountains of Afghanistan And on the high seas of China and Japan, From the bloodied desert sands of Iraq They've served well thru hell and back. .. In steaming jungles and burning sands They stand up gallant for foreign lands But this Christmas, many will be alone Over this big blue marble we call home. Whether in a crowd or at a lone outpost They will recall past Christmas ghosts, Calling back memories around the tree Of mother and father and loving family. No matter the distant shores they roam, Hearts will yearn for family and home And when Christmas bells begin to chime For many brave warriors it'll be crying time. When we are seated for a dinner grand Let us in reverence clasp grateful hands, Let us pray beneath the Bethlehem star For our military, no matter where they are. When we gather around the Christmas tree And chorus carols our hearts full of glee, Remember our lonely soldiers so far away Who long for family and home this holiday. Let us send a message borne by the wind To proud warriors who protect and defend, We salute you brave soldiers of the world Wherever your flags are raised unfurled. We Americans of the red, white and blue Stand shoulder to shoulder beside you, We love and respect you for duties done, Merry Christmas to each and everyone. Author, Major Bruce W. Lovely Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone, In a one bedroom house made of plaster & stone. I had come down the chimney with presents to give And to see just who in this home did live. I looked all about a strange sight I did see, No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree. No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand, On the wall hung pictures of far distant lands. With medals and badges, awards of all kind A sober thought came through my mind. For this house was different, so dark and dreary, I knew I had found the home of a soldier, once I could see clearly. I heard stories about them, I had to see more So I walked down the hall and pushed open the door. And there he lay sleeping silent alone, Curled up on the floor in his one bedroom home. His face so gentle, his room in such disorder, Not how I pictured a United States soldier. Was this the hero of whom I'd just read? Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed? His head was clean shaven, his weathered face tan, I soon understood this was more than a man. For I realized the families that I saw that night Owed their lives to these men who were willing to fight. Soon 'round the world, the children would play, And grownups would celebrate on a bright Christmas day. They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year, Because of soldiers like this one lying here. I couldn't help wonder how many lay alone On a cold Christmas Eve in a land far from home. Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye, I dropped to my knees and started to cry. The soldier awakened and I heard a rough voice, "Santa don't cry, this life is my choice; I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more, my life is my God, my country, my Corps." With that he rolled over and drifted off into sleep, I couldn't control it, I continued to weep. I watched him for hours, so silent and still, I noticed he shivered from the cold night's chill. So I took off my jacket, the one made of red, And I covered this Soldier from his toes to his head. And I put on his T-shirt of gray and black, With an eagle and an Army patch embroidered on back. And although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride, And for a shining moment, I was United States Army deep inside. I didn't want to leave him on that cold dark night, This guardian of honor so willing to fight. Then the soldier rolled over, whispered with a voice so clean and pure, "Carry on Santa, it's Christmas Day, all is secure." One look at my watch, and I knew he was right, Merry Christmas my friend, and to all a good night!

I was looking for a place to introduce myself. I'm T-Bird only because I have a '63 T-Bird (graduated high school in '63). Born and raised in So.Cal. but now I live in Ohio. I was in the Army from 1966 - 1968. I'm an old car nut (50's style kustoms) and a Grandpaw. I am behind the troops all the way and I think they are all doing a great job. I'm enjoying this site so far and will comment more as I surf thru it all.
